Mobile phones are the defining technology of my generation

14-year-old Santoshi Gurung of the Nepali Newsroom examines the pros and cons of mobile phones

Mobile technology was developed for communication. It is a tool that is used to transfer information from one person to another person or one part of the world to another. Mobile technology has helped to spread education and research.

In the past, pigeons, parrots and crows were used to communicate with other people: letters were tied to their legs or held in their beaks.

The use of mobile technology is increasing day by day, as there are so many facilities and apps to guide us towards a golden future. As scientific inventions have evolved and become more complex, it has yielded this generation of mobile phones, which have become an essential and inevitable part of our daily lives. They have become very popular with all generations.

Brands such as Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, Nokia and others have been relentlessly working on making and introducing more and more phones and other technologies, such as laptops, PCs and iPads, than humanity has ever produced before.

In developed countries, the majority of office jobs are done using mobile phones and computer technology. It is simpler and faster to attach and send written documents and to transfer pictures by just tapping on a few buttons.

However, there are both pros and cons of using mobile phones.

The advantages are that it is easier to communicate, helps with banking and financial transactions, emergency assistance, online education and more. Nowadays, there is also online shopping and deliveries, which makes a lot of things more efficient.

On the other hand, mobile phones can be addicting and distracting, in terms of education. Hence the phone bans that have been occurring in schools in the US, Canada and other countries. Such addictions can cause sleeping difficulties, hearing problems, poor eyesight and, some might say, a waste of time.

Although mobile phones are the greatest invention of today’s world, we need to use them in the right way.
